More and more people use mobile gadgets to access the Internet, so the need for mobile-friendly websites is permanently growing. To meet this demand, the organization that operates the universal top-level domain name extensions, ICANN, launched the dot MOBI domain name extension in 2005. The first registrations were allowed in September 2006, and the idea behind this domain extension is that all websites that use it must comply with special rules. In other words, all .MOBI websites have to be developed to be viewed properly by mobile devices in agreement with the so-called “MWI Best Practices for mobile content” formulated by the W3C Mobile Web Initiative (MWI) in partnership with the dot MOBI Registry. These have to do with how a page is being navigated, the way it is being displayed (form and size), and so on.

The regulations have raised some worries since the universal extension is the only one that specifies what devices should be able to access a website and the way in which this must happen, breaking the so-called principles of device independence, according to which a website should be built in such a way as to be accessed by the majority of web browsers and devices, be they mobile or stationary.

Due to the fact that the dot MOBI Registry does not sell domains directly, you can register a .MOBI domain with any 3rd-party firm, such as ours.
