An Operating System is the basic software that controls a computer. It takes care of how your hardware functions, the communication with peripheral devices like a monitor, a printer or a keyboard, the allocation of memory between the installed applications, plus the prioritization of apps in case several run simultaneously. Each program that is installed on a notebook or a desktop works by sending requests to the OS for various services by using an application program interface (API). The interaction with the OS can be achieved using a Graphical User Interface (GUI) or a command line. In the hosting world, the Operating System is what commands a hosting server along with all of the software installed on it, which includes not only website scripts, but, in addition any other application for example a VOIP or a game server. In case there're virtual machines created, they work with a guest OS which is run on the server host OS.
Multiple OS in VPS Servers
Our VPS server packages come with three Linux distributions that you can pick from for the Operating System of your new server - Debian, Ubuntu and CentOS. In addition to being cost-free, the OSs are really stable and safe and the reason to offer you all three of them is to make sure that you can run any kind of app that you would like, as different pieces of software could have different requirements regarding the environment they can be used on. Each of the three OSs is supported by a huge community of web developers who have created thousands of software packages which you can install and use on your VPS. Based on the Operating System which you pick, you will also be able to choose between 3 different Control Panels to handle your hosting content. Needless to say, in case you decide that you need some other OS, we can always reinstall the server with it. As an optional upgrade, we also offer weekly updates of the Operating System for maximum stability and security.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers
The dedicated server plans that we offer come with three different Operating Systems to select from. They are all Linux distributions - Ubuntu, CentOS and Debian, and not only do they have no license charges, but they are also known as the most dependable and secure OSs. We supply three different ones for the reason that each of them is backed by a different community. The packages that you could add on your hosting server are different and this could matter if you need to install some piece of software with particular requirements regarding the hosting environment. In this light, the hosting Control Panel that you can select for the dedicated server also depends on the Operating System that you'll select. You can choose any of the three Operating Systems throughout the order process, but if needed, we can always install the server anew with another one upon your request. As an optional service that you may add to the plan at any time, we can update the OS on a regular basis in order to keep it as secure as possible.
